Staying in Touch

Staying up on what is happening in the church body is a challenge. Away from church, some of the best ways to stay in touch are this website, "Martha Calls," and Twitter.

This website is updated almost daily. Because of the space available, it is one our most complete and timely forms of communication. Most print communication appears first here. So check back often!

"Martha Calls" are short (less than a minute) recorded messages that come to your telephone, often on Saturdays, and at other times when there is an emergency notification. More people communicate by phone than by internet or text messages, so this is a key method of communication when we want to make sure you get it. "Martha" is actually a device connected to a computer, and once set up, "she" works hard alone. And so we named "her" for the Martha in the Bible who worked while her sister chose to sit at Jesus' feet. Martha messages can take three or more hours to be distributed.

Our newest form of communication is Twitter messages. Twitter messages (called "tweets") are short messages (less than 140 characters) that one can receive by text message, instant message, or by viewing them on the internet — your choice! To see what it is about, go to www.twitter.com/ccclc to sign up. You first must sign up for your own free Twitter account. Second, you choose to "follow" ccclc. Third, you must choose how to receive "tweets." By default, you follow them only on the web. To receive your desire to receive "tweets" by text message or IM, you must indicate your desire to do so on the website. Most "tweets" from the church are quick instant messages of general interest to the whole church body that alert you to a prayer request, to a current event or need, or they may point you to our website for information that was recently added. Because "tweets" are generally done from a cell phone, they tend to occur "closer to the action." The other advantage is that everyone who is signed up receives "tweets" at the same time, almost instantly after they are sent. You can get all of the details for Twitter on the internet, including a little video. You can get a short, quick blast through Twitter. Give it a try!
